Professional AC/DC TIG performance in a portable package
The PROTIG 230 AC/DC FV combines AC/DC TIG welding and MMA stick welding in one compact, portable machine. It is designed for welders, metalworkers, fabricators, pipefitters and maintenance teams requiring reliable performance across a wide range of applications.
The machine delivers up to 180 A in DC TIG and MMA, and up to 230 A in AC TIG. It can weld materials up to approximately 4 mm thick, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, magnesium, titanium and related alloys.
Stable power for workshop and site use
Integrated PFC technology improves the use of the available input current. The unit can operate from a standard 230 V, 16 A socket, including during intensive work, while a similar non-PFC welding machine may require a 32 A supply.
The FV Flexible Voltage power supply accepts input voltages from 85 to 265 V. This wide operating range helps maintain a stable arc when the mains supply fluctuates or when the unit is connected to a site extension lead up to 100 metres long.
PROTEC 400 technology protects the machine against overvoltage up to 400 V. The unit is also suitable for generator operation and is protected against input-voltage variations of approximately ±15%.
Five AC/DC TIG modes for precise control
DC Standard
DC Standard provides a steady direct current for welding most ferrous metals. It is particularly suitable for carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and titanium.
DC Pulse
Pulsed current reduces heat input into the workpiece. It improves weld-pool control, limits distortion and supports accurate welding on thin sheet metal.
AC Standard
AC Standard is designed for aluminium and its alloys, including AlSi, AlMg and AlMn. Alternating current supports oxide cleaning while maintaining controlled penetration.
AC Pulse
AC Pulse combines aluminium-welding performance with controlled energy input. It provides improved temperature management when welding thin aluminium components.
AC Easy
AC Easy simplifies machine setup through predefined parameters. The operator only selects the tungsten-electrode diameter on the control panel, and the welding machine automatically adjusts the associated settings.
HF and LIFT ignition with three trigger controls
The PROTIG 230 AC/DC FV offers two arc-ignition methods. HF ignition starts the arc without touching the workpiece, protecting the tungsten tip and reducing contamination. LIFT ignition uses controlled contact and is suitable for working environments where high-frequency interference must be limited.
Three trigger-control modes adapt the welding cycle to the job:
- 2T: the trigger remains pressed during welding.
- 4T: the automated cycle reduces operator fatigue during long welds.
- 4T LOG: a short trigger press switches between two welding currents, providing instant access to hot and cold current levels.
Automatic torch detection supports both slide-control and dual-button torches. The SPOT mode produces fast, consistent tack welds before the final welding pass.
MMA welding for steel, stainless steel and cast iron
In MMA mode, the unit welds rutile and basic electrodes used on steel, stainless steel and cast iron. It supports commonly used electrodes up to 4 mm diameter, depending on the electrode type, material and operating conditions.
Pulsed MMA improves weld-pool control in difficult positions. It is particularly effective for vertical welding and pipework applications.
Three integrated MMA welding aids
- Adjustable Hot Start: temporarily increases the starting current for easier arc ignition.
- Arc Force: provides a temporary current boost when the arc becomes too short or welding conditions become difficult.
- Anti-Sticking: reduces current when the electrode sticks to the workpiece, allowing easier removal.
Programmable settings for repeatable production
Up to 30 programs can be stored for each welding process. Frequently used parameters can be recalled quickly to reproduce validated settings, standardise weld quality and reduce setup time between production runs.
The advanced menu provides precise cycle control. Current and voltage are displayed during and after welding, supporting parameter monitoring and the preparation of welding-procedure documentation.
Strong, compact and built for daily professional use
A reinforced frame and shock-absorbing feet protect the unit during transport and regular handling. Weighing 19.5 kg and measuring 47 × 34 × 39 cm, the PROTIG 230 AC/DC FV can be moved easily between the workshop, service vehicle and work area.
Intelligent fan control operates according to cooling demand. This system reduces noise and power consumption while limiting the amount of dust drawn into the machine.
Accessories included
- 1 × 2 m earth cable
- 1 × gas hose
- 1 × 2 m electrode-holder cable
- 1 × GYS SR26DB TIG torch, 4 m
The supplied equipment supports a fast setup for TIG and MMA operations. The PROTIG 230 AC/DC FV provides a versatile solution for producing clean, consistent and repeatable welds across a wide range of metals.
